The modular communication system for a nano-satellite can be composed of the following technologies:
VHF-UHF full-duplex telemetry and telecommand communication system
Works in amateur band. Requires the aquisition of amateur band space license from IARU and ITU
UHF half-duplex telemetry and telecommand communication system
Works in amateur band. Requires the aquisition of amateur band space license from IARU and ITU
S-band full-duplex communication system
With data speeds up to 1 Mbps to LEO, requires the aquisition of commercial frequency license for space from ITU
X-band downlink with data speeds up to 50 Mbps
Can be adjusted to work in commercial / deep-space network band and also in 10.4 GHz amateur band
The communication solution also includes ground-station radio receivers and transmitters corresponding to the above nano-satellite radio modules.
Work is in progress to integrate a camera system with the communication system, capable of transmitting live-video from the nano-satellite.
To validate the radio system in orbit – the camera system with X-band transmitter is planned for orbital demonstration onboard a microsat in 2023.
